The Bramble Cocktail: A Modern Classic You Can Master at Home Using The Heyford Gin

The Bramble, a drink that looks like a jewel in a glass, tastes like a late-summer afternoon, and couldn’t be easier to shake up at home.

Born in London in the 1980s, the Bramble is gin’s love letter to blackberries. It balances sharp citrus with sweet, velvety fruit and has that swirl of colour that makes it an instant showstopper. Think of it as the perfect cocktail for when you want to impress without breaking a sweat – and one you can make at home using The Heyford Gin.

What You’ll Need

  • 50 ml The Heyford Gin – the backbone; crisp and botanical.
  • 25 ml fresh lemon juice – because bottled lemon juice is never invited to the party.
  • 5 ml simple syrup – a little sweetness to tie it all together.
  • 5 ml crème de mûre – the blackberry liqueur that does all the heavy lifting.
  • Crushed ice – it’s part of the theatre.
  • Blackberry + lemon slice – garnish is optional, but why deny yourself the flourish?

How to Shake It Up

  1. Shake it like you mean it – gin, lemon juice, and simple syrup go into your cocktail shaker with ice. Give it a good 10–15 seconds.
  2. Pile high with crushed ice – fill a short glass (rocks glass) until it’s a frosty mountain.
  3. Strain and pour – the gin mixture goes over the ice, clean and bright.
  4. The magic moment – drizzle crème de mûre slowly over the top. Watch it bleed through the ice like a blackberry sunset.
  5. Crown your creation with a fresh blackberry and a neat little lemon slice.
